Your Is

Possessive pronouns (yours, his, hers, its, ours, theirs) never get an apostrophe because they are already possessive.  The apostrophe is only added when using a noun which is possessive (Fred's cup), or if a contraction is being used (that's = that is). A friend I've had since the fourth grade sent this to me recently.  I loved her comment: "No fair!  'Cameras' gets an apostrophe, but 'sensors' doesn't!"  Thanks, Mary!

This cake was for the grandmother of one of my students.  It was ordered from the same establishment as the other cake.   

Fare Thee Well!

One of my students was talking about this cake her family had ordered from a local business which will remain unnamed.  When she told the class about it, one of the other students asked if they had gotten the cake from said business, as her family had had a similar experience.  The first student replied, "Yes!"  I'm working on getting a picture of that one, too.

A Run-on Sentence with Flovor

Sometimes my students write funny things on the board just to make me laugh.  This was one of them.  It was especially funny because it is one of our spelling words this week, and the picture below is part of my spelling lesson.  I laughed with them, and then I corrected it.

Turkey Lurkey

The first time I saw this I didn't have a camera with me, and the second time I saw it someone (NOT I!) had corrected it.  So, since I was editing the phone number anyway, I tried to create it in its original state.  Lovely.  


And, whoever corrected it added an "e", but they left the apostrophe there.  Minus 10 points for punctuation as well.

My students thought this was very funny, and so did I.  This is what happens when we write what we hear and not what we read. 
I told my students that they should always have someone check their signs before they hang them up.
