Do You Sing Berry-tone?

One of Jeff's high school choir members sent this picture to us, and we loved it.  The student that sent it sings bass, not berry-tone, by the way.

ChoralFest 2019 Livestream Link and Vultures

Shenandoah Christian Music Camp ChoralFest 2019

Here is the left, middle, and right side of the Mass Choir on Riser Day.

And, during a class period in which we had no class, a few of my friends and I sneaked off (legally) to a local thrift store.  On the way, we spotted a vulture party waiting to consume a road kill possum.

On Tour with Eternal Praise and Franko (Franklin Miller)

We enjoyed traveling and singing with the Eternal Praise Chorale this past weekend.

Here is Franko (Franklin Miller) working with the chorale and doing some weird hand thing.

Here is another picture of Franko working with the choir and Mary, and he is doing a weird pose and yet another weird hand thing.  Franko, you are great!  Love, Jeff

Hark I Hear the Happy Harps!

When I heard that my friend Sarah Mills was going to be in town again playing with the Lyra Harp Quartet, I asked if there was any way they would consider coming to school and playing for our students.  They said "Yes"!

I made sure that the students were prepared and informed them about concert etiquette.  This wasn't going to be a basketball game, you know.
The students were attentive, asked good questions, and enjoyed the engaging sounds of four harps playing together.  It was lovely.

If you are interested in hearing them play or would like to have them play for your school or event, the Lyra Harp Quartet can be contacted at lyraharpquartet@gmail.com

Angels We Have Heard on High Flash Mob

We spent last weekend working on a recording project for Blue Sky Music.  After a long day of recording, we headed over to the Shady Maple Buffet for a few flash mobs.  Thanks to Myron Eby for catching it all on video, and doing some fine editing as well.

The arrangements of "Joy Medley" and "Angels We Have Heard on High" are both available at Blue Sky Music's link above.

The 17 Present a Concert of Lyle Stutzman's Arrangements and Compositions

Last summer while Lyle and Maria and their children were staying at our house for a convention and wedding, Jeff and I suggested to them that we get a group together to record his a cappella pieces for his new website, Blue Sky Music.  Human voices are so much better than a midi file!  Lyle said he would come conduct if we got a group together to do it.  The result is "The 17".

Since we will be recording on Saturday and will all be together anyway, we figured we might as well have a concert Sunday afternoon.  There are also rumors of a Saturday evening flash mob.  Stay posted for more information on that one.  :-)

The 17
Soprano - Sierra Herr, Lisa Martin, Katherine Mullet, Cari Nolt, Louisa Seapy
Alto - Rosalie Beiler, Laura Conley, Deana Swanson, Esther Swartzentruber
Tenor - Chuck Burkholder, Dan Miller, Jesse Weaver, Derrick Yoder
Bass - Lavelle Beiler, John Strickler, Jeff Swanson, Linden Wadel

Blue Sky Music's New Website -- YAY!

Visit Lyle's new website at https://www.blueskymusic.net/ for easy listening and purchasing, and stop by  https://www.facebook.com/blueskymus to like Blue Sky Music.  Enjoy!

As a music teacher and choir director, I am always looking for pieces that I can use with the elementary school choir, the junior high choir, the high school choir, or the church youth group choir.  I have found wonderful pieces arranged by Lyle Stutzman to use for all of these choirs.  Not only are Lyle's arrangements and original compositions of good quality and helpful to me as a director, but my students usually really enjoy singing them and ask to do more.
Some of my favorites that I have used include:
Give to Our God Immortal Praise
Joy Medley
What Joy Within the Courts of God
Evening Star
For Unto Us
Angels We Have Heard on High (commissioned by the Terre Hill High School Chorus)
As for You, My Son
Shout for Joy
Roll Away

- Jeff

7th and 8th Grade Recital Practice - Enjoy!

Three of our talented young students at Shalom Mennonite School were practicing one of our new favorite songs, "Cajun Fiddle", for the 7th and 8th grade recital held the second-to-the-last day of school.  Again, our school has a policy to not show pictures of the students' faces, and we and our students are happy to honor that.
Click on the link below to hear it.

Hittin' the Road with the Terre Hill Gospel Team

We just spent four remarkable days with the energetic Gospel Team (the 11th and 12th grade choir elective), reliable chaperones, delightful friends, and gracious hosts.
Pictured above is a flash mob at Walnut Creek Cheese in Holmes County, Ohio.
*All photographs were taken by Elvin Sensenig.
The Sommers sisters treated us to a mini concert in
Wayne County, Ohio.
The final evening included a concert with Maranatha Christian School in Sugarcreek, Ohio.  Each school sang a few pieces, then Franklin Miller and Jeff each directed a piece with the combined choirs.
