Every year my students amaze me with their creativity when they bring their history poster projects to school and we hang them up on the walls. I have a few requirements which encourage their creativity.
1. The topic must cover American history 1850 - present.
2. Posters cannot be rectangular in shape.
3. They cannot be white unless pre-approved by the teacher.
(The Route 66 sign was really white, so that one was approved.)
4. Posters must have at least one 3D object that relates appropriately to the topic (i.e. no twine and clothespins.)
5. They must have a title, the dates, map, and photo, as well as two paragraphs about the event or person. One is a summary of the event, and the second about how it changed history.
