This past summer Jeff taught music theory and music appreciation at SIMA, Shenandoah Institute for Music and Arts. It really was a lot of fun along with a lot of intense learning.
At the end of the six and a half week session, each student received a certificate of completion and had accomplished the equivalent to Theory I and Sight Singing I on a college level.
Along with many hours of classes and study, we enjoyed fabulous meals
(a low-country boil: shrimp, corn, sausage, and potatoes),
including our very own SIMA Israeli honor roll party.
My favorite part of the honor roll party was after all the hard work of setting up and serving was done, we grabbed pillows and relaxed on the floor while Fern Ebersole read us two stories with her delightful voice inflections. It was an evening, and a summer I will remember for a long time.
SIMA is now accepting applications for the 2013 Summer Term. A scholarship is also available if you are really interested but are a little lacking in funds. More information can be found at their website, http://musicinstitute.info/.
