Pollen, Pollination, and Fall Science Stuff

We've been studying bees, pollen, and pollination.  We examined a forming pumpkin which still had the pollinated flower attached and found the spot where the flower had fallen off a mature pumpkin.  We stuck our fingers inside some other blossoms and collected our own pollen.  Whatever we learn about in our science books, we try to find outside and see for ourselves.  Hands-on learning is great for understanding, greatly enhances what we study in books, and is just more enjoyable.
We also examined a golden rod plant, some leaves we found on a nature walk, and a yellow jacket with his stinger.  Inside our terrarium, we discovered a tiny skink, ants, a slug, and two other kinds of worms.  It was a good fall science day.
