Shark, Bark & Bugs

Last week we collected smooth pieces of bark and grabbed a few sticks with burnt ends out of the fire pit.  Today during history we used the charcoal on the sticks to write on the pieces of bark just like Captain John Smith did when he showed the Native Americans how to write letters.
And we've been reading every shark book we can find.  Today I remembered that preserved shark I had bought for Jeff's birthday a few years back.  The students enjoyed looking at it and trying to figure out what kind of shark it was.

Today we read about praying mantises in our science book.  Guess what we'd found last night on our family walk?  Exactly.  So we spent some time looking at him and getting a little grossed out.  Sorry.
And on our way back to the classroom from practicing our tennis forehand shots, we found lots of bees and butterflies on the bee balm plants.
