Salt Dough Mosaics

These salt dough mosaics were fun and easy to make following the simple recipe below, with ingredients we already had on hand.  These were completed by the students of the Abiding Peace Virtual Christian School three dimensional art class.

Note:  Extreme caution was used with any glass or china pieces.  The broken or chipped pieces of china and pottery were obtained for free from a thrift store and smashed into pieces inside a thick bag.  Gloves and eye protection were used.

Recipe:
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
1 cup water
Knead for 5 minutes and roll out flat (about 1/2" thickness) onto parchment or wax paper.
Press objects into the dough and let dry for a few days.  Remove paper from backing.

Younger students can just press beads or found objects into their dough.
