I got this idea from Sara Nolt at Dew Drops of Joy. She has a lot of good ideas. First, we went on a nature hike and gathered black walnuts, pokeberries, and goldenrod. Then we smashed or cut them up.
Next we simmered them in water for about 30 minutes.
Then we strained the plant material out and added a little bit of alum, although I think it would still work fine without the alum. I added a little cornstarch as well to make it a bit thicker. Then we painted with paint we had made ourselves.
