Cotton Pickin' Day

Last week in our history class we were reading a book on Eli Whitney and the cotton gin.  As part of a hands-on history project, we picked the seeds out of a cotton boll.  On just one boll, we picked out thirty seeds.  It took around 15 minutes to get the seeds out of just that one cotton boll.  The cotton gin really was a great invention.

The next day during our art class,  we carded the cotton and then rolled it into homemade yarn with our hands.  I'm hoping to use it in another weaving project hopefully sometime soon.

We use these painted rocks to identify which piece of yarn is whose.
