My Wife Used All Our Peanut Butter to Make Bird Food

Recently, we made suet for the winter birds.  We've seen several outside at the bird feeders including downy woodpeckers, a flicker, sparrows, and cardinals.  Here is an easy suet recipe to make for your feathered friends.

Suet
1.  Combine 1 cup shortening with 1 cup peanut butter.
2.  Melt and stir.
3.  Add in 2 cups oatmeal, 1 cup cornmeal, and 2 cups birdseed.
4.  Stir until mixture is well combined.
5.  Spoon into plastic containers.  (We used recycled suet plastic trays.)
6.  Freeze over night.

We found that these stayed hard when removed from the freezer and were easy to remove from the trays and put into the suet feeders.

Here is one of my favorite feathered friends, a downy woodpecker.  He chirps happily while he is eating.
