Hands-on Geology Test. You Say Onvelope; I Say Invelope

Since we'd been actually touching and looking at real rocks, fossils, and minerals, the picture above was the first part of the geology test.  They had to identify fourteen different rocks and minerals.  I was too happy when no one missed anything!  They got all the answers on this part of the test correct.  Yay for hands-on learning.  (The answers are at the bottom of this post just in case you might be interested.).

In English this same day, the fifth grade lesson was on envelope addressing.  So, we addressed a real envelope, and put a letter inside it to really mail to someone.  Learning is so much more interesting to students when it is applicable to real life.   By the way, either pronunciation of envelope is accepted as correct in the U.S.
