Field Trip to the Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum

We immensely enjoyed our fourth field trip of the year (I try to plan one every quarter) to the Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum.  It was interesting and educational, and a great place to take a field trip.  I would rate it a close second to Colonial Williamsburg.

Here are some of the activities in which we partipated.

* Thirteen minute introductory video
* Blacksmith demonstration
* Broom making demonstration
* Tavern kitchen and cook demonstration
* Arts and crafts project
* Several tours of period-correct buildings, some guided, some self-guided
* Museum

Above are our group's versions of the German art of scherenschnitte, or paper cutting.
We got to participate in a short class and make some.

 Below is a photo of a German hay protector thingy.  The roof was thatched and could be raised or lowered to better protect the hay.

This is going to be my next new teacher dress, but without the big black bow, thank you.
