Scherenschnitte - German for "Scissor Cuts"

I first learned about scherenschnitte, the German and Swiss form of paper cutting, during a field trip to the Landis Valley Farm Museum.  I thought that trying a more advanced form of it would be interesting to delve into, so I grabbed my scissors, made my own patterns from some ideas I found online, and began cutting away.  I especially like the effect of using black paper to cut and then placing it on top of a lighter colored paper.

Simpler designs like the ones in the first link above are suitable to use with younger students, while older students could make more complicated ones like those below.   I saved the patterns I made as pdfs, so if anyone is interested, I'll gladly share.
